BISP will have 5,000,000 additional beneficiaries from Balochistan: Shazia Marri

ISLAMABAD, July 4 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – July 4, 2022): Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare Shazia Marri said that 500,000 additional people from Balochistan province will be included in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) which reportedly covers sixty-five to seventy percent of the population.

Addressing a presser here, the federal minister announced the creation of more BISP centers in the province and said. “A total of 25 mobile units will be engaged for the execution of BISP operations until that time.”

Shazia Marri said that the current government has increased budget allocations for the Poverty Alleviation and Social Security Division up to Rs. 372.32 billion, which is 43.2% more than the previous budget, account given the prevailing situation in the country.

She said the BISP has proven to be the most successful and robust social protection intervention in the country. The amount of Rs. 364 billion has been allocated to BISP while Rs. 6 billion will be used for Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal projects.

Shazia Marri said about eight million people were being assisted under Benazir Kafalat and other programs which would be increased to nine million this year and ten million until next year’s budget.

She said about three million children were receiving Benazir scholarships, which would soon be increased to five million, while budget allocations were increased from Rs. 20 billion to Rs. 36 billion.

On the Benazir Nashonuma Scheme, Shazia Marri revealed that Nashonuma Centers will be established in all districts of the country this year through the increase in Rupee allocation. 21 billion to solve the problem of malnutrition among children.

Regarding the Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme, she said that so far 92,000 scholarships have been awarded under the scheme while an additional 10,000 students will be included in the scheme with an amount of allocation increased during this year.

The scholarships have been given to students with a family income of less than Rs. 45,000 per month, but it is proposed to increase the income bracket of this scholarship up to Rs. 80,000 taking into account inflation and hardship economic.

The Minister said that a dynamic BISP register will also be prepared which will update the socio-economic status of BISP recipients. Criticizing the former Pakistani government led by Tehreek-i-Insaf for the worst economic situation due to ineffective policies; Shazia Marri said the coalition government was trying to pull the country out of the economic crisis.

To this end, the government is forced to take tough decisions to stabilize the economy and the Minister of Finance, Miftah Ismail is working hard to get the economy back on track.
