Farmers receiving government assistance P350-M
BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya: Secretary William Dar of the Ministry of Agriculture (DA) led the launch of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Financial Aid to Rice Farmers (RCEF-RFFA) in Tuguegarao town, Cagayan on Wednesday, October 27.
According to DA-Regional Field Office 2 (DA-RFO2), approximately 350 million pesos under RCEF-RFFA was transferred to the Development Bank of the Philippines for 69,118 targeted farmer-beneficiaries in the region.
About 197.1 million pesos were awarded to beneficiaries approved this month.
DA-RFO2 Executive Director Narciso Edillo said he approved 39,421 beneficiary farmers under the registry system for basic sectors of agriculture.
At the launch, Dar said the fund was born out of the Rice Pricing Law, or RTL, signed a year ago.
“[N]ow it comes to you. I am happy to say also that despite the series of calamities of the last year, we have reached 90 percent of the goal of food self-sufficiency, ”he added.
Edillo said Dar had also provided 1.5 million pesos to 60 farmers through the DA’s Agricultural Credit Policy Council Survival and Recovery Loan program.
According to him, small farmers and fishermen, affected by Typhoon “Maring” (international name: “Kompasu”), received financial assistance under the loan program of up to 20,000 pesos per borrower. .
“There is no interest, no guarantee, and [the loan is] payable over 10 years, ”noted Edillo.
He said Dar has also handed over 56.3 million pesos of solar-powered water retention and irrigation projects, among others, to various towns in Cagayan province.
