Prices are rising at an alarming rate for people on fixed incomes like Social Security, according to AS. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has shown that prices have increased 6.2% since October 2020. Since last year, the cost of food has increased 5.3% and energy costs have increased by more than 30%.

In a letter to Congress, the Senior Citizen League demanded that Social Security recipients receive a stimulus check. Some of those affected by the current situation could be helped by a targeted stimulus for those enrolled in the program. By September, the campaign had already started and a petition had been compiled by campaign supporters. Seniors’ advocates have called for a fourth stimulus payment of $ 1,400 to be approved for about 69 million Social Security recipients, according to Newsweek.

Stimulus checks received no support or opposition from Capitol executives

The Build Back Better Act was passed by the House of Representatives on Friday, November 19. While it doesn’t include a Social Security stimulus check, it does include a number of other benefits for seniors. Medicare hearing aid coverage will be extended, as will the government’s ability to negotiate a limited number of drug prices with drug companies each year.

According to AS, more than a million people have signed a petition to support the bill, but no national poll has been conducted to see what the public thinks about it. Stimulus checks targeted for seniors have so far received no support or opposition from Capitol Hill executives.
